Kateryna Minakova

Dr. Kateryna Minakova is a lecturer at York St John University Business School whose work sits at the intersection of sustainability, environmental justice, and societal resilience. Originally from Dnipro, Ukraine, she brings a deeply personal perspective to some of the most pressing environmental and humanitarian challenges of our time.

The Russo-Ukrainian war has profoundly shaped both Kateryna’s life and her research. Witnessing the impact of the conflict firsthand, she has seen the devastation inflicted on landscapes, ecosystems, and wildlife. These experiences have inspired her growing focus on ecocide and the long term environmental consequences of war. Her work explores how armed conflict affects natural habitats, biodiversity, and local communities, while also examining the urgent need for accountability and environmental recovery.

Kateryna is particularly interested in restorative justice and how societies can respond to environmental harm in ways that promote healing, responsibility, and sustainable recovery.
