St Nicks – Green Corridors York
York has a rich abundance of green spaces, which act as vital green ‘lungs’ breathing life into our city. Connecting these are the city’s two main rivers, their surrounding floodplains, disused railway lines, medieval strays and city wall embankments. We call these ‘green corridors’.
The biodiversity of these crucial green ‘lungs’ and connecting corridors are declining due to human pressures, pollution and lack of resources affecting management. This is despite the efforts of land managers, conservation groups, local communities and dedicated volunteers.
We will reconnect and restore, bringing nature to the forefront to ensure key species and habitats thrive; including floodplain meadow, water vole and tansy beetle.

Rotary York Ainsty
Rotary York Ainsty was founded in 1960 to give an opportunity for local people to get involved with York and its many communities.
RYA is part of a world-wide network of 1.2 million volunteers and encompasses a healthy York-based volunteer community.

The National Lottery Community Fund
We fund community projects that help people connect, grow and build a better future. We focus on supporting people facing poverty, disadvantage or discrimination. By 2030, we will share over £4 billion to create stronger, fairer communities across the UK.
Climate change is one of the biggest threats facing our planet. While many of the challenges are global, communities have the power to make a real difference locally. That’s why we’re supporting environmental action through all our funding, and investing in projects focused specifically on sustainability.

Through our Working Groups – focusing on biodiversity, energy, transport, health, and more – we facilitate collaboration, share knowledge and promote impactful climate and nature action. Our aim is to help York become a more climate-resilient and sustainable city.
