SUMMARY:The People's Assembly
DESCRIPTION:In 2019\, Extinction Rebellion York hosted a People’s Assembly that led to the declaration of a climate emergency in York. Together\, hundreds of York’s citizens voted for mandates that we presented to the council to influence local environmental policy. \n\n\n\nAfter years of uncertainty and inaction\, we’re reviving our People’s Assembly to give the citizens of York a voice on local climate issues and policy. \n\n\n\nWe’ll hear from national and local environmental leaders\, get to the heart of climate issues\, and engage in true participatory democracy around three key themes: end fossil fuels\, involve people\, and protect what’s threatened. \n\n\n\nBased on our discussions\, we’ll take recommendations to the council\, local businesses\, and groups – all aimed at building a movement for change. \n\n\n\nThe People’s Assembly will be hosted at Central Methodist Church\, an accessible venue with refreshments and facilities. \n\n\n\nPlease also join us to decompress and relax after the event. \n\n\n\n\n\nBooking: https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/the-peoples-assembly-tickets-698862876677 or by phone: 07891 015955
